An appraiser should always have to be aware of their surroundings and what obstacles are around them. The most unfortunate part of that experience, Certified General Appraiser Scott Anderson said, was it was early on in his drone experience, and he had the “get it done tomorrow” attitude about insurance. It was an expensive lesson to learn, he said.

More and more, the appraisal profession is utilizing drone photography to achieve accurate data from devices that can get into the tight spaces appraisers cannot access. Scott Anderson, a Certified General appraiser, outlined some of the advantages appraisers will come to know by choosing this option in obtaining the necessary data they need for assignments.

Drone photography is a very efficient way for commercial appraisers to do their jobs. Since it is becoming more popular to use drone photography, asking Scott Anderson, a Certified General Appraiser and drone user, to share his experiences seemed natural. He gives insight on where to start, what he’s learned, and where he sees the future of drone photography. Though Scott mentions the regulations of drones, he does not go into detail. Question: We know all appraisers like to get drone photography, but most of them hire out this type of work. What made you decide to do it yourself instead of hiring someone?
